A DAY TOGETHER

Spending time together is one of the most important things you can do for your relationship!

A DAY TOGETHER - Couple's one day retreat

English information

We know that it is easy to let time stand out from each other in the endless list of things that "need to be done." That's why we invite you to participate in our seminar "A Day Together."  It will be a special moment to listen, laugh and learn more about each other in whatever stage of life you are.

A Day Together is a resource already tried with success in many countries within Europe, and has finally arrived to Portugal. There will be 5 short talks (imagine a TED Talk for couples) with time given to you and your partner to process in a pleasant yet relaxed and romantic atmosphere.

For our first "Day Together" in Portugal, we invited the authors, Mark and Christine, Directors of FamilyLife Uk. It is especially exciting to have Mark and Christine, because  they developed the materials we will use on our "Day Together." Another resource developed by Mark and Christine is Together (intended for small groups for further study and growth). Most of the talks will be offered primarily in English with Portuguese translation. The talks will be offered live in Cascais (Riverside International Church), and will be streamed to Porto instantaneously.

Each session we will present practical relationship tools based on Biblical principles, brought alive with personal stories and illustrations. There are personal application exercises and of course plenty of time to talk privately as a couple. It’s a cringe-free day and there are no group exercises, role plays or reporting back about your relationship so you can relax!

Whether you’re married or not, whether your marriage is solid or you’re struggling you will leave inspired and equipped to strengthen and grow your relationship with a renewed sense of purpose and hope.

SESSIONS

We will have 5 great sessions to equip you for some of the most important aspects of all relationships.

  1. Communicating Together – Developing a deeper understanding of each other.
  2. Growing Together – Identifying what tends to pull us apart and what helps us to grow closer.
  3. Resolving Conflict Together – Managing our disagreements in a healthy way.
  4. Loving Together – Understanding each other’s needs and love languages.
  5. Moving on Together – Discovering fresh ways to continue growing as a couple.

WHAT OTHERS SAY

“Fantastic! Every couple in the country should do this.”

“Great for those who struggle to communicate”

“We tackled a long standing issue which was easy to do in this ‘very safe’ environment.”

“Prioritising time together today has reminded us of why we got together in the beginning, has given us confidence in what we are doing well and most of all gave us a chance to practice communication tools which will continue to help us grow.”

“It is worth it.”

“We came to the day having had a big row and felt hopeless with each other and our relationship. We are going home, looking forward to spending time together and can’t stop holding hands. Thank you.”

“I would be very happy to recommend the day to anyone!”

FOR WHO

The Day Together seminar is suitable for all kinds of couples whether living together, engaged, married or not. The day is designed for church goers, those of all faiths and none as long as they are open to relationship values based on Biblical principles.

The day is a great investment of time for couples whether their relationship is solid or they are struggling. The seminary's emphasis is on the practical application that benefits all couples present, regardless of the position or circumstance of their faith.

“It’s great – all relationships can be improved, even the best ones!” (married couple)

"As non-Christians, it was not what I expected. A very relaxed, yet useful, approach to relationships that we will benefit from. "(Couple in a long-term relationship)."

“My feelings were hopeless, I’m not sure anything would help.” Feedback afterwards: “It gave a glimmer of hope that things can change.”

PALESTRANTES

MARK & CHRISTINE DANIEL live in South Bucks, England.

They have been married for nearly 30 years and they have two grown up daughters.

Mark is the extrovert and loves the outdoors (especially offshore sailing), action and being with people.

Christine keeps Mark under control and is the completer/finisher of the family; she enjoys drama and creative projects, the outdoors and solitude.

Mark and Christine joined Agapé in 2003 to lead the FamilyLife Ministry in the UK. Prior to this Mark was a Sales Director in a number of IT and high tech companies, after having served as an Army Officer at various locations around the world (he used to do Bomb Disposal!).

Christine used to be a Bank Manager, choosing to stay at home after the birth of their first child.

Mark & Christine are the authors of TOGETHER resources, used widely in UK and spreading in Europe.

TRACE & DEBORA GUNSCH

are Americans who currently live in Brussels, Belgium. They both grew up in North Dakota, USA, and met at University. They survived many cold winters there before getting married and moving to Germany and then to warmer Arizona. They have lived in Belgium for 6 years.

Trace and Deb came from homes with strong marriages and wanted that kind of strong relationship for themselves. They attended several Family Life seminars in the States and realized the impact it made on their lives and marriage. When they learned that Belgium has the highest divorce rate in the world, they knew they had to try to do something.  They started by coordinating a FamilyLife Seminar for the Belgian community in 2018, where A Day Together was held in English and in French for the first time. Their personal commitment to helping marriages has now included being part of the speaking time for FamilyLife as well as for other events in Belgium which support families and marriage. Their hearts are for married couples to know where to find good tools and aids that will make their marriages stronger-- which will also make families stronger...especially in the areas of communicating, loving and sex. They have three adult children; Andrew, Allison, and Hannah. Trace currently works as a Network Engineer and Debora is a private music teacher; but they also enjoy playing board games as well as racket sports and traveling.
